The Memories Are Here And It’s Spring Again: Andrei Gamarț

5 - 26 May 2017
Overview

In this exhibition Andrei Gamarţ proposes to generate a space that is a kind of visual mnemonic, charged to interact with each viewer who makes their way through the gallery. "The Memories are here and it's Spring again" is actually a utopian journey to an un|real destination. The artist reactivates an internal-theme-made-physical which, as it is pursued, provokes different levels of interpretation.

The exhibition is organised by The Brâncoveni Palaces Cultural Centre, The Bucharest Municipal  City Hall  in partnership with Mobius Gallery.

The exhibition space is atectonic, it cannot be described or scanned topographically. The shape and angles of its surfaces are built from the continuous, repetitive and unique experiences of each viewer. Mirror, Visit, Error are image keywords. The main ICONs, which are to be found along the way, have the role of stimulating and selecting elements from the viewer's memory and intersecting them with "objects" - elements of the artist's work, thus creating the possibility of a common space, a space active only by virtue of being visited.

The exhibition includes works from throughout the artist's career and are accompanied by a series of texts and experimental poems extracted and condensed from the writings of Andrei Gamarţ. There are a number of visual experiments: audio-video and object installations, performance pieces that add to the dynamic of the exhibition experience. The central idea is to create a visual territory where memory and imagination coincide. Nothing that happens here would ever have happened if memories could not be imagined.
