Roman Tolici: New Hope in Sibiu

17 July - 17 August 2025
Press release

ROMAN TOLICI: NEW HOPE arrives in Sibiu, the fourth stop on its itinerant journey through five cities in Romania. Organised in partnership with the Brukenthal National Museum, the exhibition is set to open on Thursday, July 17th, 2025, at 3:00 PM, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, 6 Tribunei Street, Sibiu.

The exhibition presents recent works, reflecting on social, political, and personal transformations reshaping the contemporary world. NEW HOPE is a space, shaped by both human vulnerability and resilience, in a time when physical and spiritual boundaries are constantly being challenged.

‘History is filled with examples of hope proving vain—empires crumbled, disasters struck, and injustices went unanswered. Yet, despite it all, hope has stubbornly reappeared, time and time again. This new series explores that abstract and fragile feeling we call HOPE.’ - Roman Tolici

A CONTEXT OF ACCELERATED CHANGES
Socio-political shifts usually unfold gradually, allowing time for adaptation. However, abrupt events in history can trigger rapid changes, causing collective trauma. Over the past four years, such events have profoundly impacted our lives. Roman Tolici’s works reflect moments of uncertainty, adaptation, and the quest for balance in this context.
