• Concept

The project aims to highlight the efforts of the main investors in contemporary Romanian art by documenting and publishing (both in video format and as limited-edition physical copies) the most significant private art collections. This endeavor is complemented by a series of exhibitions organized and curated in partnership with Mobius.

The purpose of the project is to shed light on the overwhelming contribution that contemporary art collectors have on the cultural destiny of our generation and to encourage, through the power of their example, the involvement of other potential lovers and supporters of the visual arts.

Due to the socio-political context prior to the Revolution, real cultural gaps were created, threatening to extend to the younger generation. We have a duty to recover past artists and their creations and to support those who are currently shaping art history. For this, we need concrete examples of people who have understood that approaching and investing in art is like breathing — it happens naturally, without anxiety and without prejudice.

  • Video

The video aspect of the project consists of creating a series of materials that individually present the story of each contemporary art collector and their perspective on investing in art. In these interviews, collectors will discuss their experiences in the world of contemporary art, how they developed their collection, and why they chose to invest in art.

Each interview will be recorded and edited to meet the requirements of the distribution platform. On YouTube, each interview will be approximately 10 minutes long and structured in a way that makes it easy to follow and understand. During the interviews, images of works from their collections will also be used to illustrate the discussions. Additionally, on social media, 60-second excerpts from the interviews will be created, making them more shareable and easy to consume.

The main goal of this project is to educate the public about the world of contemporary art and to demonstrate how it can be a valuable investment through a modern and dynamic format.

  • Exhibition

The physical activation of the project for the general public involves organizing contemporary art exhibitions based on works from private collections, which are often no longer accessible to the public after being sold.

The curatorial team of the Mobius gallery will provide a professional framework for displaying the works and will work closely with collectors to develop a coherent concept for each exhibition. The goal is to present the artworks in a way that is accessible to the general public, drawing attention to the diversity of the collections and how a collection becomes intrinsically linked to the person who created it.

  • Catalogue publishing

The publications are based on the private collections of selected collectors, highlighting the unique features of the artworks and offering the public the opportunity to explore these exclusive collections. As the catalogs are tangible prints, they provide a more authentic and lasting way to present and study art compared to online sources.

The catalogs will be structured to showcase both the artworks and the stories of the collectors and the history of their collections, allowing readers to better understand the context and significance of the pieces. This approach makes the catalogs widely accessible to the public, offering a durable and valuable reference resource for collectors, curators, students, and art enthusiasts who wish to explore and gain deeper insights into contemporary art collections.

Each catalog serves as a comprehensive and permanent source of information about art collections. Unlike exhibitions, which may be limited in terms of the number of works displayed, catalogs can feature an entire collector’s collection, providing a broader perspective on the art and the philosophies of the collectors. This makes catalogs an important means of documenting and preserving contemporary art collections for future generations. While exhibitions have a limited duration and may only be on display for a short period, catalogs can be kept and used for future studies and research, making them a valuable tool for better understanding contemporary art, art investment at a national level, and its history.
